Alberto Cardemil is a partner at Carey and co-head of the firm’s Natural Resources and Environmental Group. His professional practice is focused on water law, natural resources transactions and litigation, agribusiness, corporate law and commercial law. His practice areas also include infrastructure and project development, mining, and ESG. Additionally, he leads Carey’s China Desk.

He has been recognized as a leading lawyer by several international publications such as Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and Latin Lawyer, among others. He was awarded twice as Lawyer of the Year in Water Law by Best Lawyers (2024 and 2016).

He is Vice-Chair of the Energy & Natural Resources Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, where formerly he served as Chair of the Environmental Committee. He also serves as a member of the board of the Chinese Chilean Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, and of the company Aguas Nuevo Sur Maule in Chile, as well as Deputy Director of Hortifrut. During 2005 and 2006, he worked as Foreign Associate in the Projects and Corporate groups at Herbert Smith Freehills, in Melbourne and Perth.

With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Cardemil graduated from Universidad Católica de Chile’s Law School and has an LL.M. from the University of Sydney.
